WANTED: Guinea Pig Reader

Hello, my dear followers, I come to you with a very important request. My dear mancha_sama and I have embarked on another collaborative writing project and we need YOU. Well, maybe not you, you, but a couple of you.

What we need:

Someone willing and able to give in depth feedback on readability, plot, characterization, continuity, and such. We're not too interested in grammar/typo feedback at this point, but if you find something you want to comment on anyway, feel free. Concrit is fine with us.

The Specifics:

Fandom: Final Fantasy VII
Spoiler Alert: Storyline makes heavy use of Before Crisis, Crisis Core, and Advent Children Complete. May also eventually include references to Dirge of Cerberus.
Pairings: Established Zack/Aerith, Eventual Sephiroth/Cloud, Possible Genesis/Vincent
Genre: Time Travel, Action/Adventure, Humor, Angst, Drama, Tragedy, Romance somewhere in there.


Current Completion Level:

Currently there are nine chapters done, and entering the first stage of editing. Your reading would fall under “stage two” of the editing process. At this point in time we have a sum total of twenty-eight chapters planned, although that is nowhere near the end of the story.

Time Frame:

As we're doing this storyline mostly for fun rather than “profit” its slow going, so you won't have to be reading over a chapter every few days or something. It'll be a relaxed, slow process, and we won't be ready to post this story for awhile yet, but we'd like to get some fresh eyes in for the editing process.



We're looking for one or two people who are interested in performing this “beta” reading for us, so if you're interested please post here so that we may enter a dialogue with you, or something. :)

Ah! Well, I read it through several times, doing my best to catch & correct any spelling, grammatical, & flow issues I find. If I can't figure out how to fix it, then I make a note, but usually I can figure it out.

We are indeed still looking for betas, as we want a couple of opinions. So can you tell us what your beta-ing is like?

It's been a while since I've actively done a beta, but usually what I do is read through the story/chapter, then insert my comments/thoughts on sections that catch my interest. 'Interest' can range from "Ooooh! That's a neat idea" to "I don't think this works because reason" to "Typo!" (although you guys have said you're not specifically interested in spelling/grammar checks at this point).

While I'm more than happy to discuss/debate any nitpicks (canon continuity/plot/pacing/characterization) that I present, I understand and respect that all final decisions come down to the author(s), and that our views are not always going to match. I always like to add the disclaimer that my comments are merely my opinions, and that the author(s) can pick and choose what works for them.

I can't think of anything to add besides that. If you have any other questions, please let me know!

Found this post through the prologue post to author checking. I would like to sign up, if a spot is still available.

My beta style as a grammar checker is practically terrible, as I have the tendency to auto-correct while reading, but I'm good at picking out plot devices, concrit as well as pointing out cliches. I can do fact-checking and do preliminary readings and feedback. I think that this story, having two authors working on it, is rather solid already and any beta for this project will only give finishing or extra touches.
