Idk why, but I decided to run a few names through Babelfish:

工藤 新一 (Kudou Shinichi) = Kudou new one

Okay, not surprised there.

白馬 探 (Hakuba Saguru) = Hakuba searching

Okay, that made me lol a bit. Searching? Yeah, that's... -snicker.- Oh poor Hakuba.

黒羽 快斗 (Kuroba Kaito) = Kurobane it is pleasant 斗

And, of course Kaito broke babelfish. Though the 'it is pleasant' part kills me.

I had to translate the babelfish too when I was looking for Japanese fanart. Kaito breaks everything. The google translator calls him doo-young? No idea where that came from.

Shinichi has the kanji for new and one, but shin can also mean truth if you used a different kanji so it's supposed to be a pun.

Hakuba is white horse and Kuroba is black feather. Throw in the ao/blue from aoko and aka/red from akako and you have the colors crew.

Then Kaito's first name. Love. The kai means cheerful or pleasant which proves toichi nailed it in the name. The -to is generic for big dipper/sake dipper.

My fave is Toichi. The to is the same 'stealing' kanji as the kai in kaitou. So his name is stealing one. I think Gosho got lazy...

LOL. I don't think babelfish gives name translation. Though Haku-chan and Shin-chan's name translations are... somewhat correct... Kai-chan's one cracked me up. XD. They do the translation word by word, not phrase by phrase. -_-'''

I wasn't doing it for a translation of their names. I'm already well aware what the translations, and puns therein are. I was just doing it because I was bored and playing around with Babelfish.
