I just realized that Hakuba's the one person in the know who'd be able to explain to Kaito that he's his own rival, except he doesn't know about the love interest angle. Since Kaito's going to confront Shinichi as Kid next, I suspect he'll figure it out on his own before Hakuba gets a chance to observe Shinichi from his new point of view.
