As a child Kaito had always enjoyed watching fireworks. There was just something in the bursts of vibrant sound and color that had always spoken to him. They reminded him of his father in so many ways. Fireworks were a carefully orchestrated performance with room for improvisation. They were spectacular, and when they lit up the sky they drew your attention and held it raptly.

The fact that festivals usually accompanied fireworks was another reason Kaito liked them so much. Festivals were so much more than fun days spent with friends and family among the crowds, much more than games and good food... Festivals were a captive audience.

All those people tossed into such a small area called to Kaito like very little else. No matter what age he could always be found providing impromptu entertainment on the festival streets. The happy laughter of the crowd thrilled him like nothing else, and when he managed to enthrall even the stall workers.... Those were the most magical nights of his life.

Kaito didn't think even a Kid heist could compare to the purity of the thrill those festival nights gave him. There was just something about working his magic for purely selfless (Mostly, anyway, there was always a gain for him when it came to the crowd.) reasons.

The best times, though, were always when the first fireworks shot into the air and blossomed into color and he got to watch it bloom on the eager faces of the people surrounding him. The fireworks were his foil, the perfect backdrop as he pulled one last trick and slipped away to watch the display himself.

Yes, Kaito enjoyed fireworks a great deal. They were dramatic, and colorful, and loud, and attention grabbing. He rather thought he and fireworks had a great deal in common.

All the same, no firework could compare to the look of absolute delight that spread across Shinichi's face when Kaito presented him with something so commonplace but rare as a sweet.

It made Kaito sad that Shinichi was forced to live most of his life in the guise of Sherlock but, selfishly, he liked it (a little guiltily) because it meant he was the only one who got to see these fireworks.
